You know, I tried to take a picture in the exact same spot -- and had the same issue with the shadow.
You would think all those medieval architects would have thought ahead and been considerate of all the photogs trying to capure the glory of their work.
I kind of like the shadow. Adds depth.
Perhaps. But I am afraid of the dark!
